And then there is a surprise Strigoi attack on St. Vladimir’s Academy which sends everything out of control. The Academy is filled with overprotective guardians and concerned students. Since the Strigoi are getting closer and stronger, this year’s ski trip is absolutely mandatory. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling

My Rating: 5 stars

**If you haven’t read previous books, don’t read!**

During his third year at Hogwarts, Harry’s experience is much different than it was the previous years. First of all, he has a new, mysterious Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, who used to be friends with his father. Also, Mr. Weasley, Ron’s father, informs Harry that he isn’t safe anymore. The mass-murderer, Sirius Black, who was locked up in Azkaban for twelve years has escaped and is after him.

Harry, his friends and almost everyone at Hogwarts isn’t safe at all. There is nothing they can do, except keep the school under watch by the dementors. Although they have taken all the precautions to keep the students and the school safe, there is a traitor in their midst that can ruin it all.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling

My Rating: 5 stars

**Spoiler Alert! If you haven’t read the Sorcerer’s Stone, don’t read!*

In his second year at Hogwarts, Harry Potter faces more problems. Well, first of all, while he is at his aunt and uncle’s over the summer, he receives a visit from a mysterious house elf. The elf, Dobby, tells Harry that is dangerous to return to Hogwarts. Harry, of course, ignores this warning, and has Ron and his brothers break him out of the Dursley’s house.

And in the end, Dobby the elf is right about Hogwarts not being safe anymore. Something strange is turning the Muggleborn students to stone. No one has any idea who it is, or why it’s happening. Then, Harry and his friends find the puzzling diary of Tom Riddle. In the diary lays the secrets to everything that’s been happening. In the end, Harry learns more about the evil man who is after his life, saves an innocent life, and realizes that he can’t give up.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling

My Rating: 5 stars

This is the first book in the amazing Harry Potter series. What can I possibly say? This series is my all-time favorite. J.K. Rowling is an amazing writer.

In the beginning of this book, young Harry Potter is living with his cruel Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia, and cousin Dudley. He wishes he could escape from this terrible place. He hates them, and they hate him. On his 11th birthday, Harry receives a visit from a special guest, telling him that he is a wizard and the story about his deceased parents. Harry then realizes why weird things have been happening, and why his aunt and uncle isolate him from others.

Harry then goes to Hogwarts, where he discovers friendship, magic and acceptance. But, being Harry Potter, nothing is easy. He learns about Voldemort, who tried to kill him when he was younger. He was the one who killed his parents. Harry and his friends Ron and Hermione search for the Sorcerer’s Stone, which they think Voldemort is after. In the end, Harry finds out how powerful he really is.

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

My Rating: 5 stars

Rose Hathaway was made to protect the Moroi vampires, just like all the other Dhampires. Dhampires are a mix of human and vampire, where Moroi are mortal vampires with a special connection to earth’s magic. Moroi must be protected all the time from Strigoi, the vamps that never die.

So, for years Rose knew that she would be dedicated to protecting her best friend Lissa Dragonmir, no doubt. And that’s not easy. Since Lissa is the last Dragonmir, the Strigoi want her to be one of them. They both ran away from St. Vladimir’s Academy for two years, and now they’ve been dragged back. Rose and Lissa will try to continue their education like nothing else happened. Then, they both discover that Lissa has a rare power, very rare power. A power that could most likely drive her absolutely insane. While they’re back at the Academy, they both deal with forbidden love, and Rose must never falter protecting Lissa for fear that the Strigoi make her one of them.

Go Ask Alice by Anonymous

My Rating: 4 stars

Warning: Rated PG-13

Go Ask Alice is a really good book. It’s actually based on a diary of a fifteen-year-old drug user. It shows how she feels and acts while using different drugs. The author is anonymous, and names, dates and places have been changed for the people concerned. This story follows an average fifteen year-old, until one day her ‘friends’ add drugs to one of her drinks. It’s all downhill from there. This story is nothing like you would expect and has a surprising ending.

Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson

My Rating: 5 stars

Warning: Rated PG-13

This book is absolutely amazing. Anderson tells an emotional story of a girl named Lia who is trapped in the eating disorder anorexia. All she can think about is food. How much she’s going to eat. How many calories? How much she weighs. All she cares about is food and less about what is actually going on in her life. Cassie, Lia’s best friend died. The thought of it being all her fault makes Lia starve herself more. As Lia’s story unravels, she loses more weight, loses touch with her family, and almost loses her sanity.

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson

My Rating: 5 stars

Warning: Rated PG-13

Speak is amazing. As soon as I started reading it I was captivated. This book is about Melinda Sordino, who called 911 at a high school end of the summer bonfire party only a few weeks before she started her freshman year. No one knows specifically why Melinda called the police, but all her old friends hate her because of it. For Melinda, the only way to express herself is through art. As the school year progresses, Melinda has decided to stay quiet, not even speaking to her family. Melinda’s grades descend and she starts to skip school. In the end, Melinda reveals what happened the night of the party, and what caused her to go silent. But then she realizes she should have spoken up in the first place.

Twisted by Laurie Halse Anderson

My Rating: 4 stars

Warning: Rated PG-13

Twisted is another really good book by Laurie Halse Anderson. In the book, she tells the story of Tyler Miller, the boy who was never noticed. But before his junior year in high school ended, he vandalized the school and got in big trouble. The community service he is demanded to do over the summer turns him into a ‘tough guy’. Tyler realizes that being noticed isn’t everything. In his roller-coaster-like experience in senior year, he has to deal with his angry father, as well as he doubts himself. His one choice will change it all.

Burned by Ellen Hopkins

My Rating: 5 stars

Warning: Rated PG-13

Burned is definitely my other favorite book by Hopkins. This book is about Pattyn, a teenage Mormon girl who hates the way her life is. She is constantly taking care of her younger sisters, having to deal with her crazy drunk father, and irritating mother. Pattyn starts to act out in school and disobeying her parents. He father sends her to her aunt’s house in the country for the summer. There she finds love, acceptance and freedom. In the end, everything will change. Pattyn just doesn’t know if it’s for the best.
