It’s Earth Day – Go Green!

Hey everyone,
I’m sure you guys all know that, every year, April 22nd is Earth Day! And I’m also sure that you are being bombarded with different ways to go green, save our environment, and save energy.
All of those ideas like taking shorter showers, using less paper products, recycling soda cans, water bottles and paper and unplugging electronics when not in use are great ideas.
But, I have a different idea.
If all of us book lovers go to the library to get books instead of buying books that we read only once and then never pick up again, that will save a lot of paper! I’m not saying that you can’t buy books, because I buy them too. Just don’t buy as much.
This idea might seem like it won’t work, but really it will have a big effect in the long run.
So, tell me what you think, if you’re going to try it out, etc!

Gone by Michael Grant

My Rating: 5 stars

Could you imagine if one day, all of a sudden, everyone over the age of fourteen just vanished? No teachers, no parents. No police officers or doctors. Just the young: toddlers, teens and middle schoolers. Also, there are no phones, and no internet and TV. There is absolutely no way to get help. Then a wall, a barrier, called the FAYZ, surrounds a twenty mile radius around the nuclear power plant outside Perdido Beach. Kids are developing weird powers, and animals are mutating. Oh, and one other thing, on the day you turn fifteen, you disappear forever, like everyone else.
Sam, and his friends Astrid, Quinn and Edilio have to deal with the kids from Coates Academy, who all want to take over and rule the FAYZ region. Will Sam be able to defeat them?
I thought this book was kind of absolutely amazing. The idea was totally original, I would have never thought of it myself. This book is filled with completely unexpected moments, and strong characters. Definitely a book you need to read. I can’t wait to read the next book!

Hunted by P.C. Cast & Krisitn Cast

My Rating: 5 stars

**If you haven’t read previous books, don’t read!**

Zoey Redbird and her friends Damien, Aphrodite, Erin, Shaunee, Stevie Rae, the red fledging vampyres and a Son of Erebus named Darius, are on the run from the evil, fallen angel, Kalona and Neferet, who has refused to follow Nyx. Everything is at stake. Zoey is the one destined to finally rid the world of Kalona, who has been stuck in the earth for more than a thousand years. She is the only thing that can save the House of Night. But the one thing is Kalona appears in her dreams. Can she resist him? Everything relies on following one poem, written by a red fledging vampyre; hopefully Zoey can get it right.
So, I’m sure you all know that I absolutely LOVE the House of Night Series, and I’m sure you’re all tired of me saying it. Oh well. Anyway, I think this is the best book series I’ve read in a while. Every book captivates me from the first paragraph. These books just have something about it that makes me never want to put it down. If you thought Chose and Untamed changed everything, wait until you read Hunted!

National Library Week

Hey everyone!

Okay, so really this is just a random post, but I thought I’d let everyone know that this week is National Library Week!
I think National Library Week is really cool. It was first formed in 1958 by the American Library Association (ALA). National Library Week, this year, goes from April 11th to April 17th, 2010. It is usually the second full week of April. During this week, we are encouraged to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and librarians to promote the use and support of our libraries. Almost all libraries across the country – school, public, academic and special – participate every year.
So be an awesome library supporter and go celebrate you’re library! :]
Or you can just go get a book or something.

Oh and you can see facts about National Library Week here.

And visit the American Library Association’s website right here.

Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card

My Rating: 2 stars

Ender Wiggin is one of the smartest kids his age, and he has been singled out as the one to defeat the buggers and lead the Third Invasion. Can Ender successfully complete his mission? Or is everything just a game?
I had to read this book for my reading class in school, and I thought by the reviews for it that it might actually be a fairly decent book. But I don’t think it was even close. I didn’t like this book for many reasons. 1. I’m not that into science fiction genre, especially the whole “aliens” thing. 2. This book was really confusing, especially towards the end. I don’t know how to describe it, but sometimes it was just confusing for me to read. 3. This book was boring. And when I say boring I mean BORING. I can’t remember one time I actually wanted to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next.
Oh, will you believe it if I said there was one thing that I liked about this book? Well, there is. The one thing I liked was how the book ended. I think the second to last chapter was the best one out of the whole book. But, I won’t say anymore, in case you might actually want to read this book…
And, there are maybe six other books in this series… but I’m not even going to bother to read them.

Looking For Alaska by John Green

My Rating: 1 star

Okay, so, I found this look on the Barns & Noble website while searching for new books to read, and I thought this book sounded good when I read the description. But it wasn’t all I expected it to be. This book is about Miles Halter, a boy who is obsessed with famous last words, who is going to attend Culver Creek boarding school. And while there, he meets the interesting Alaska, the girl who he can’t seem to figure out. Really, I don’t know what the main point to this story was, because I barely even got 100 pages into the book. And, the book was set into two sections, a “before” and “after”. But the one thing is what is it before and after? And why is he looking for Alaska when she is clearly right there, living and breathing, talking to him? I guess I’d have to read more into the book to find out, but really, I don’t think it’s worth it…

Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin

My Rating: 3 stars

Liz Hall died at the age of fifteen. At first, she doesn’t even remember that she is dead. When she wakes up on the SS Nile on her way to Elsewhere, she realizes what has happened. Elsewhere is where people go once they die, in which they age backwards from the age they died at. Once the person has aged back to a baby, they are sent back down the River to return to Earth. But Liz doesn’t want to get younger and relive her childhood years. She wants to turn sixteen, get a driver’s license, graduate school, and fall in love. Can all of that happen when you are dead and living a reversed life?
Okay, so I don’t really know how I feel about this book. Really, I thought this was going to be an awesome book. I thought the whole idea of aging backwards was totally original. The description mentioned a couple dead famous people, so I thought Liz might get to meet them, but she didn’t. Also, at a few points in this book it got a little juvenile, especially the clichéd main point to this book: “A life isn’t measured in hours and minutes. It’s the quality, not the length.”
I don’t know…this book just didn’t click with me.

A Very Potter Musical

My Rating: 4 stars
So I’m guessing that A Very Potter Musical has been out for a while, but I just recently had the time to watch the whole thing, and let me tell you, if you love Harry Potter as much as I do, you will absolutely LOVE this musical. It is filled with catchy Potter-themed songs, some comedy, a Voldemort and Quirrell friendship, and its own original storyline made up from some of the ideas of the books. I really liked the characters, and Harry’s voice.
Oh, and if you haven’t read the seventh book yet, I wouldn’t suggest watching this because it does kind of give some of the seventh’s book ending away at the end.
I think the only thing I didn’t like about this musical was that it was kind of long. I realize that most musicals and plays might be like that, but I can’t sit still for that long! Anyway, this was super awesome, and I suggest that you go watch it right away!

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

My Rating: 5 stars
Clary’s story first beings with her meeting the mysterious trio of Shadowhunters – which are demon killers. Within a day, Clary is pulled into their world. The Shadowhunters protect her from demons, but why would demons be interested in a normal mundane (human) like her? Her mother has a secret, and it’s all in Clary’s memories. But the thing is Clary’s memories have been erased by powerful magic; she can’t remember a thing from her past. All she knows is that she used to have a normal life, and now is everything is nothing like it used to be.
The assumed most evil Shadowhunter ever, Valentine, is looking for one of the Mortal Instruments: the Mortal Cup. It is Clary and her Shadowhunter friends’ job to find it and make sure that Valentine gets nowhere near the Cup. But in the end, nothing is what is seems, and you don’t know who’s story to believe.
I really, really liked this book. I loved how the world isn’t really what is seems like. There are really vampires, werewolves, mermaids, faeries, warlocks, witches and demons running through our world. I love fantasy books like that. Overall, this book was super interesting, and I can’t wait to read the next one.

Alice in Wonderland Movie

My Rating: 5 stars
When this movie first came out, I was so excited to see it and I actually saw it on the first night it came out. And believe when I say it was awesome, it was. It was totally cool how the director, Tim Burton brought everything to life, and the cast was absolutely phenomenal.
Mia Wasikowska played Alice, and did an awesome job. Also, Johnny Depp played the Mad Hatter, as I’m sure you all know, and he did amazing. He must like to play crazy people in movies, because his take on the Mad Hatter was perfect. Helena Bonham Carter, who you might know as Bellatrix Lestrange from the Harry Potter movies, played the Red Queen. I thought it was really cool how in the movie her head was bigger than her body, and Helena did awesome bringing the Red Queen to life. The other people in the cast included Anne Hathaway as the White Queen and Alan Rickman, who plays Severus Snape in the Harry Potter movies, as the voice of the Blue Caterpillar.
I suggest you go see this movie as soon as you can!
