The Lightning Theif Movie

My Rating: 2-3 stars

Where do I start on this movie?
I cannot believe Chris Columbus, who directed Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, directed this movie. I am so surprised. I first saw this movie without reading the book, and I thought it was pretty good. But now that I’ve read the book, I realized the movie is kind of horrible.
This movie doesn’t stay even close to the plot of the book. In the book, Percy is twelve and in sixth grade. In the movie, he looks at least sixteen or seventeen and can drive a car.
Basically, the main plot was changed. Instead of Percy going on a quest to get Zeus’s lightning bolt from Hades and save his mom while doing so, he sneaks out of Camp Half-Blood to find his mom and just “happens” to find the lightning bolt along the way. It annoyed me how he was just like a sixteen year old kid crying for his mom the whole time. At least in the book he said how much his mom meant to him and all that.
Overall, I didn’t like the take on this movie. I suggest that if you’ve read the book, that you don’t even bother watching this movie. It is nothing like the book, and it will aggravate you to no end.
If you haven’t read and don’t plan on reading the book, watch this movie, because it will make no difference to you.
