This book was nothing like I expected. I thought it was going to be another book from Tally’s point of view where she goes through another surgery. But this book is from Aya Fuse’s point of view. Her world formed a few years after Tally Youngblood took down the uglies/pretties/specials system; it’s in a full blown cultural revival. Everything is different. “Kickers” spread the latest gossip, “surge monkeys” show off the latest style in exotic plastic surgery. Popularity rules; whoever gets the most talk wins. But Aya’s rank is so low, and she’s basically a total nobody, an Extra. But when she meets a clique of extreme girls, she finds the opportunity to go into a world she’s completely not ready for.
All in all, I really, really loved the Uglies series, and I thought this book was a perfect ending to the story.

Everything has changed for Tally Youngblood. She has been completely remade. Her bones are now aircraft ceramic, light but indestructible. Her muscles repair themselves. She can hear the faintest, most distant sound through her skintenna. And all her senses are supernaturally sharp. She’s a Special. The strength, speed and clarity for everything in Tally’s life feel better than anything she can remember. But there’s something there. One part of her remembers something more. When she gets the chance to stamp out the New Smoke permanently, it all comes down to that tiny memory or what she’s supposed to do. Nothing will be the same.
I really, really liked this book. It’s action-packed and suspenseful; the perfect ending to Tally Youngblood’s story.

After Tally Youngblood’s encounter with the Smokies, she is sent back to New Pretty Town and finally receives her surgery. For a few weeks, she has been living the life, looking pretty and forgetting her days as an Ugly. Then, she receives a mysterious message from someone from her past, telling her that something is truly wrong with her; Tally and her friend Zane learn that the Pretties’ brains are altered during their surgery, and they set out to find the cure.
Since I absolutely loved the previous book, Uglies, I knew this book was going to be good. And guess what? I was right. Scott Westerfeld is a wonderful writer and I loved how he made this book so futuristic but so real at the same time.

I’m not going to lie, but I absolutely loved this book! The whole series is great actually. But this was a really good way to start it all off. So this takes place in the future, not the type of future you’re thinking about: the stereotypical flying cars, etc. Although this does have hover-boards included, there are many more original ideas. Okay, so the main character, Tally Youngblood, is about to turn sixteen. And when you turn sixteen you get this surgery to make you a “Pretty” since you are born “Ugly”. But everything goes wrong when she meets a group of kids the “Smokies” who don’t want to change their faces.
