The United States is now a place where love or ‘amor deliria nervosa’ is illegal. It’s considered a disease. It’s been sixty four years since love was announced as a disease. Forty three since there has been a cure. Every person: woman, man and child, live in fear of contracting this deadly disease. The government’s brutal authority and control includes gender segregation, media censorship, beating and physically harming people who don’t cooperate and basically brainwashing everyone to believe that the cure will save you.
Lena, who is seventeen and whose family has been tainted by the disease in the past, can’t wait to get cured. She can’t wait to live without the fear of accidentally becoming infected. She can’t wait to live a happy life. Until she meets Alex. Alex is unlike everyone else in Portland. He is a resister. He isn’t cured, but he pretends to be. As soon as Lena first sees Alex, her whole world changes. Lena’s story is a heartbreaking story of love and bravery in someone who is least expected to resist.
I can’t get over how amazing this book was. I swear every bit of this story is perfection: the plot, the main idea, and the characters. They’re perfect. I love Lauren Oliver and I wish I knew how she came up with this idea. She also wrote one of my other favorite books “Before I Fall.” I really hope there are more books after Delirium.

Samantha Kingston has seven days to relieve the day of her death. What ended up being the last day of her life was supposed to be the best day ever. She had it all. The friends. The boyfriend. The popularity. But the car accident changed her life – literally. After a while, Sam takes advantage of the seven days she has left. She does things she never did before; talks to people she’s never even took a second glance at. But in the end, Sam realized that she wasn’t granted these seven days to save her life, but to save someone else’s.
I loved this book. There is no other way to say it. I love it. This book has so many different messages that you have to uncover. My favorite was: “Don’t live life with your eyes closed”. At least that’s what I got out of it, and I think that’s the best thing you can say to anyone. This book is a must-read!
So, have any of you read this book? What did you think of it? Are there any other hidden messages that you picked up on? Comment!
