The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant

My Rating: 3 stars

Mme. Loisel is a middle class girl who desperately wishes she was wealthy. She’s got the looks and the charm, but she was born into a family of clerks and married M. Loisel, who was a clerk in the Department of Education. Mme. Loisel believes that she should and deserves to be wealthy. She spends all day dreaming about elegant dances and dinner parties of the rich. One day, M. Loisel brings home an invitation to an extravagant ball being held by his boss. Of course, his wife already has everything planned out; she will buy a new dress and a most likely expensive piece of jewelry to go with it. But when Mme. Loisel loses the necklace she borrowed from her wealthy friend, everything goes wrong and her life is changed forever.
There wasn’t too much I liked about this story, besides the main idea, which I deciphered as to be happy with what you have and also always tell the truth. Mme. Loisel, the main character, was ignorant and selfish, which got quite annoying after a while… Try and read this short story and tell me what you think!
