Rose Hathaway was made to protect the Moroi vampires, just like all the other Dhampires. Dhampires are a mix of human and vampire, where Moroi are mortal vampires with a special connection to earth’s magic. Moroi must be protected all the time from Strigoi, the vamps that never die.

So, for years Rose knew that she would be dedicated to protecting her best friend Lissa Dragonmir, no doubt. And that’s not easy. Since Lissa is the last Dragonmir, the Strigoi want her to be one of them. They both ran away from St. Vladimir’s Academy for two years, and now they’ve been dragged back.
